Yellow Ribbon Day

My friend Madison is a student-teacher here in Kailua. She has been working all semester at an elementary school with a great group of second-graders. I got to visit her classroom last week and enjoy their school's celebration of Yellow Ribbon Day.

The ceremony included the Marine Corp. Party Band, a beautiful slideshow of students and their military parents (made me cry) and lots of flag waving.

Students with deployed parents were recognized and given the opportunity to hang giant yellow ribbons outside of the school. The rest of the students lined the playground fence with red, white and blue ribbons.

It was a beautiful program put on by the school. It's such a great thing that patriotism is recognized and encouraged, especially since their student population has a high percentage of military kids.
