90's Throwback Guest Bedroom

Our nostalgic 90’s guest bedroom (which duels as my craft room) started out a couple years ago with the sighting of an inflatable chair online. I had one of those chairs when I was growing up and it just got me in my 90s-kid feels. Of course, I had to have it and from there, the nod to my childhood/teen years was in full motion. It wasn’t supposed to ever cross into super-cheesy-themed, but I think once the Flarp! was purchased, all bets were off! “Whatever with a twist,” as I once would have said.

Besides all the fun things I purchased to decorate, I also changed the bones of the room a bit. Since moving in, I removed the chair rails (one of those “weekend” projects that became a week-long situation), gave the walls and ceiling a fresh (few) coats of Behr Polar Bear paint, replaced the ceiling fan with a new one from Home Depot and removed the accordion closet doors for a DIY rainbow flagging tape wall.

Lucky for me, the 90’s and early 2000’s have been really in with the youths for the past couple years (sighs in old millennial) and while I did find quite a few vintage items hunting across Etsy and garage sales, so much of the room is brand new. At first glance, it looks just like a modern kids room, but the more you look around—and then a furby stares back at you—you can see each item was strategically picked to commemorate this totally tubular era of time.

I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want | So tell me what you want, what you really, really want | I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) | I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ah

In case you too really really want to add some millennial vibes to your home, this post is full of all the source and inspiration links. A few things here and there are vintage or discontinued, but the rest of the sources should all be here:

Just for the LOLZ and giggles, here’s a glimpse into my actual “sporty” 2005 bedroom. I believe I was pricing items for a garage sale and that’s why it’s such a mess in these photos, but I won’t lie — this was definitely the norm for me. So sorry, mom.

If you could bring one thing into your home to bring back the feeling of childhood, what would it be?
