Ms. Schemmenti + Mr. Eddie + Mr. Johnson

As September crept near, I was a little concerned that my yearly family Halloween costume idea just hadn’t hit me yet. I mean, this was a big one, right? Our first as a group of three. Then, the Emmy’s happened and my whole Twitter feed was filled with pictures, videos and clips from our favorite show, Abbott Elementary. The stars aligned; it was perfect.

Coach didn’t have to look far for his fit; he basically embodies Mr. Gregory Eddie every day at work. I am much more a Janine Teagues at heart, but I had to rock the red hair and leopard for Ms. Melissa Schemmenti.

Much like our entire lives, the costume just wouldn’t be complete without our little Mr. Johnson, the wittiest custodian in all of Philly.

Bless Mr. Johnson’s heart with his facial hair. Have you ever tried painting an 11-month-old’s face? It. Was. Not. Simple. Did he lick some of his goatee off, halfway through photos? Yes? Is the face paint supposedly non-toxic? Also yes.

Our ID cards were DIY; blank navy lanyards (from Amazon) with iron-on white vinyl. You can find all the files I created and printed in Canva. Milo’s shirt is SHEIN, shorts are SHEIN (I dyed with navy paint to be a darker color), shoes are Amazon and the Melissa & Doug broom he barely touched is from Amazon.

If you haven’t jumped aboard Abbott Elementary, please treat yourself tonight! Whether you work in public education, like us, or just appreciate a good mockumentary comedy, it is so much fun to watch! Quinta Brunson and the entire cast are just everything and more.

Happy Halloweek!
