Brokenhearted for Newtown
Such an unbelievably horrifying morning. I had just sat down on my couch to write a new blog post for today when I saw this tweet as I opened my browser. I'm a bit of a news junkie so I locked my eyes on to CNN.
BREAKING: Police are on the scene of an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., after reports of a possible shooting.— Yahoo (@Yahoo) December 14, 2012
About half an hour later, from what most media outlets understood, a teacher had been injured and the shooter was confirmed dead. As terrible as this may sound, there was such a sense of relief. Yes, prayers were certainly being said for the teacher who was being treated in the hospital. However, what a relief that it was nothing more...
As most of you know now, the death toll just seems to keep climbing and climbing. Administrators, teachers and students (who are not older than 4th grade) were killed this morning. At least 20.
As I sit here & weep, I just can't help but wonder what could possess a human being to do a thing such as this.
I'm thinking of the mommies & daddies who are at the school right now, identifying their young child's body.
Their memory of the last time they saw their babies as they dropped them off at school...a safe place.
The wrapped Christmas presents they will see under their trees tonight, knowing they'll never be opened.
The framed photos around the house. First school portraits.
Those empty bedrooms. Beds that will never again hold their sweet children as they sleep.
The little classmates who witnessed the events. May their eyes be too naive to understand.
I am just sitting here in my apartment and weeping. There's just so much hurt in my heart for this little town. I cannot fathom having dealing with an event such as this. I hope they know America is mourning with them.
Praying for peace. Praying a miracle or two. Praying that some of these reports are untrue.
Praying for these families. Praying for the entire town of Newtown.
Praying for our World.
