As the winds die down and the water recedes after a natural disaster like Hurricane Harvey, so does the news and the social media attention. The world is focused on the the next storm (rightfully so, as immediate danger and preparation are important), but our Texas cities will be here quietly rebuilding for the days, weeks, months and years to come.
I hope to continue focusing some attention on the recovery efforts here in my home state. If you have something to add, especially from a local perspective, please send me an email with that information.
WAYS TO HELP
- Donors Choose Projects by Teachers in Conroe, TX - Most of these projects were created before the storm, but it's still important to get these teachers great products for their classrooms (especially if they are suffering from Harvey at home).
- Interfaith of the Woodlands - This group is organizing volunteer opportunities, storing and sorting basic needs and providing shelter and financial assistance to S. Montgomery County.
- Lone Star Cowboy Church Montgomery - The Lone Star Beef Ministry is providing meat and meals to shelters and first responders. Support the meat ministry or give to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts on their website.
- Montgomery County, Texas Resource List - Find donation center information here.
